Heartwarming moment of a father and son interacting at home, with a laptop on the table.

A Father Confers Identity

Fathers have the responsibility to confer identity to their children because the Bible demonstrates that a child’s sense of belonging, purpose, and destiny is meant to be anchored in the voice of a father who affirms them just as God the Father does for His own Son.

The father who establishes identity in his children protects them against the world’s false labels. From Adam naming his children, to patriarchs blessing their sons, to God declaring over Jesus, “You are my beloved Son,” Scripture consistently reveals that a father’s words are meant to root children in who they are, Whose they are, and what they are called to become.
